Peridance Center International Dance School

 

Peridance Center was established by artistic director Igal Perry in 1983. Since its inception, the Center's goal has been to provide a broad spectrum of dance education within a nurturing and professional environment, preparing dancers for the continually evolving international dance arena. The school at Peridance Center offers an open program of classes, a comprehensive Foreign Students Program, and a graded children's program named the PeriChild Program. The Center is also the home of Peridance Ensemble, the renowned contemporary dance company.

Peridance Center is located in a beautiful landmark building, one block south of Union Square in the Greenwich Village area of Manhattan. This location is currently being renovated to accommodate 6 large, professionally equipped studios featuring high ceilings, column free space, sprung floors, pianos and excellent sound systems. The ground floor features a state-of-the-art theater, a coffee shop, and a Capezio dance store.

Through the years Peridance Center has forged many affiliations and close relationships with professional companies and institutes including Jennifer Muller/The Works, Donald Byrd/The Group, Complexions, The Limón Institute, Elisa Monte and many others. Students directly benefit from being immersed in this vibrant dance community enriching their day-to-day study and obtaining opportunities to further their career.

Commended by Dance Magazine as "a place for serious dancers", Peridance Center has continually maintained its reputation for excellence, drawing students from around the globe. World-renowned faculty members have included such highly acknowledged figures as Yuriko, Benjamin Harkarvy, Donald Byrd, Eva Evdokimova, Séan Curran, Heidi Latsky, Kevin Wynn, Eva Kloborg, Margo Sappington and many more. Many former students have gone on to perform, teach and choreograph professionally throughout the world, populating reputable companies including the National Ballet in Tokyo, Scapino Ballet in Holland, Frankfurt Ballet in Germany and many Ballet and Modern companies in the USA.

Peridance Center is the culmination of years of hard work and a firm belief in dance as a positive force. The integration of the traditional with the cutting-edge has enabled the school to maintain its original premise of offering dance education with integrity and high quality without being compromised by vapid commercialism.
